Nepal Home Minister Rules Out CA Polls without Arms Management
Kathmandu, August 31: Home Minister Krishna Prasad Situala has said that the election to the Constituent Assembly is not possible without “fully managing” the arms.
“Elections for Constituent Assembly could be held only when people feel completely secure," he said while addressing a gathering of Nepali Congress party workers in Chandragadhi, Jhapa on Wednesday. He said: "Constituent Assembly is not possible before the arms are fully managed.”
Sitaula, who is also the chief negotiator on behalf of the government in the ongoing peace process, said the negotiations between the government and the Maoists were focused on the arms management and the Assembly elections.
The Home Minister claimed that both the seven-party alliance (SPA) government and the Maoists were confident of the fact that the problems dogging the country could be addressed only through dialogue.
